We have great news to share: Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 2576 into law on September 14!

This legislation, authored by Assemblymember John Harabedian, provides important protections from SB 79 for qualifying historic resources listed in the California Historical Resources Inventory Database before January 1, 2025—including contributing properties within listed historic districts.

Thank you to everyone in the Pasadena Heritage community who answered our calls to action, contacted the Governor, shared information, and made your voices heard. Advocacy works because people show up, and this is a meaningful example of what we can accomplish together.

We are also grateful to Assemblymember John Harabedian and Senator Sasha Renée Pérez for their work in advancing protections for California’s historic places.

This is an important step toward ensuring that California can address its housing needs while also recognizing and protecting the historic places that tell the stories of our communities.
