Altadena’s Highlands Neighborhood is Officially a Historic District
After over 8 years of advocacy, the Altadena portion of the Historic Highlands neighborhood is now officially L.A. County’s first historic district. The neighborhood, which includes a portion of Pasadena and Altadena is known for its diverse architectural styles, including Craftsman, Spanish Colonial Revival, and Tudor. In 2008, the Pasadena portion was designated as a landmark district, but the county’s designation will provide protection to 77 additional homes in the unincorporated area.
This designation process was a years-long effort championed by Historic Highland residents and community organizations including Altadena Heritage to preserve the area. The Conservancy has advocated for the historic district at key County hearings throughout the process. After the neighborhood was spared by the Eaton Fire in 2025, the designation only became more critical.
