Last week a federal court granted a preliminary injunction blocking efforts from the Trump administration to remove or alter information displayed at National Park Service sites and ordered censored displays to be restored. The federal judge stated "The Government’s stewardship of these park sites thus carries a responsibility to present history in full rather than in favored fragments. Unfortunately, the Government has disregarded these principles."

The lawsuit was launched in February as the Trump administration carried out the 'Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History' Executive Order which has resulted in the removal, altering, or censorship of materials and exhibits across National Parks. This has included exhibits or signs on slavery, LGBTQ+ history, indigenous history, climate change, and more.

The case, National Parks Conservation Association et. al. v. Department of the Interior, et. al. is led by the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), additional plaintiffs include the Association of National Park Rangers, the Coalition to Protect America's National Parks, the American Association of State and Local History, the Union of Concerned Scientists, and the Society of Experimental Graphic Design.

The order gives the administration until July 3rd to restore and reinstall all interpretive materials. As a result of order, a new court filing revealed that dozens of objects were removed from at least 37 National Park Service sites. Check out the announcement from the NPCA to learn more!
