Opportunities to Join a Proposed Session at the SAA 92nd Annual Meeting
Participating in the program of the SAA’s 92nd Annual Meeting can help you build your reputation and your network. Submissions for proposed sessions will be accepted until Thursday, September 10, 2026, 3:00 p.m. EDT. Consider submitting your research. If accepted, you will become part of one of the largest archaeological meetings in the United States and share your research and connect with your colleagues from around the world.

From Old Roots to New Buds: Recent Research in Midwestern Paleoethnobotany
From pioneering the widespread use of flotation assisted botanical recovery, to research on the domestication of the Eastern Agricultural Complex and more, paleoethnobotany has deep roots in the Midwest. Archaeologists today are grappling with many of our settler-colonial origins. Click for more information
CFP: Plants as Partners: Collaborating with Plants in the Archaeological Process
So often, plants and vegetation are perceived and treated as obstacles to archaeological fieldwork and heritage preservation. Roots penetrate fragile remains, tree trunks obstruct scanning and mapping, leaves and seeds blow into open trenches mid-excavation, and each season of a multi-year project usually involves removing the weeds that have taken over in the off-season. Much effort is expended moving and removing plants that impede research progress or threaten the preservation of archaeological remains. Click for more information
