On October 26, 2026, a group of preservation, conservation and design organizations filed a friend-of-the-court brief in Lemmon v. Trump, supporting Public Citizen’s motion to stop construction of the proposed 250-foot Triumphal Arch near Arlington National Cemetery. The groups include the National Parks Conservation Association, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks, The Cultural Landscape Foundation, the Committee of 100 on the Federal City, DC Preservation League and the American Institute of Architects. They argue the project lacks required Congressional approval and would encroach on more than 40 historic properties in the memorial landscape and the capital’s monumental core.

The National Capital Planning Commission is scheduled to vote on the Arch on November 5, 2026, the final regulatory step, and the National Trust is encouraging public comments before then.
