This month, two bills important to historic preservation have recently advanced in the House Natural Resources Committee and Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, setting up opportunities for potential legislative wins before the end of the year.

The House Natural Resources Federal Lands Subcommittee held a legislative hearing on the Route 66 National Historic Trail Designation Act (S. 2887, H.R. 5470). While the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee reported the bill favorably and it's been placed on the Senate's legislative calendar. As the historic road celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, this bicameral and bipartisan legislation would establish Route 66 as a National Historic Trail, bringing increased interest, investment, and economic revitalization to communities along the iconic road. Last week the House Natural Resources Committee voted by unanimous consent to approve the Renewing the African American Civil Rights Network Act (H.R. 9269, S. 4767). This bicameral and bipartisan bill would reauthorize the African American Civil Rights Network, which lapsed in January of 2025, for 10 years. Learn more and take action!
