Wheeling Heritage Receives $90,000 Grant for the 1867 Wheeling Artisan Center
Wheeling Heritage has received a $90,000 Frontier to Statehood grant from the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia, a program supporting the rehabilitation and continued use of historic buildings across the state for the nation’s 250th anniversary. The funds will pay for painting the upper cornice and window moldings and repairing the wooden windows of the Wheeling Artisan Center, built in 1867 by merchant and banker Henry List in the Downtown Wheeling Historic District and renovated by Wheeling Heritage in 1996. Work is planned for 2027.
Wheeling Heritage also joined the Wheeling-Ohio County CVB, U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito and local partners to break ground on the Wheeling Gateway Center, which will reconnect the historic Wheeling Suspension Bridge with the Wheeling Heritage Trail and waterfront. A related FHWA Scenic Byways grant will replace interpretive signs along the Heritage Trail.
