A City Worth Remembering: What Do Historic Places Mean for Houston?
Preservation Houston, with Houston Design Collaborative and Houston Mod, hosts a panel on why historic places matter in a city known for reinvention, from headline cases such as the Kirby Mansion, Garden Oaks Theater, Astrodome and Harper School to everyday decisions about homes, churches and neighborhood gathering places. Moderator Bill Dupont, FAIA, who leads the University of Houston’s new historic preservation program, is joined by Emily Ardoin (Preservation Houston), Caroline Cheong (Kinder Institute, Rice University), Roni Cabrera (Art in the Heart, who led the campaign to save the Granada Theater) and Deavion Wallace (Mapping Houston’s Old Chinatown).
Tuesday, November 17, 2026: doors 6 p.m., program 6:30 p.m. Free for members of the three host organizations; $10 for others. Free parking in the church lot at Fannin and Binz; near the Museum District MetroRail stop.
