October 15, 2026 marks 60 years since the National Historic Preservation Act was signed into law, and the 106 Strong coalition led by Cultural Heritage Partners is using the date to formally launch its campaign to defend Section 106. Plans for the day include the premiere of a five-minute film about Section 106 and its future on 106Strong.com, a press release, and delivery of a second open letter to every member of Congress.

The new letter opposes the Senate permitting bill, which the coalition says would effectively gut Section 106, and asks Senators to vote it down and, if it passes the Senate, asks the House to defeat it. The coalition reported 875 signatories ahead of the launch and is aiming for 1,000; organizations and Tribal Nations can still sign on through the 106 Strong website.
