American Battlefield Trust Campaign to Save 414 More Acres at Brandy Station
The American Battlefield Trust has launched a campaign to protect 414 acres at Brandy Station in Culpeper County, Virginia, site of the June 9, 1863 battle, the largest cavalry engagement ever fought in North America. The land includes about 406 acres next to Fleetwood Hill, J.E.B. Stuart’s headquarters, and an 8.45-acre tract nearby, together one of the largest remaining unprotected parts of the battlefield. With expected federal and state grants, the Trust needs to raise $62,500 for the purchase and $59,563 more to keep restoring the landscape to its 1863 appearance.
More than 2,353 acres at Brandy Station are already preserved, and earlier efforts led to the opening of Culpeper Battlefields State Park in 2024.
