Providence Committee Approves Demolition of 1960s Downtown Skybridge
Providence’s Downtown Design Review Committee has unanimously approved demolition of the “Tri-Store Bridge,” a 1960s concrete pedestrian skybridge over Clemence Street that links three former Westminster Street department stores, the Providence Preservation Society reports. It was the committee’s first meeting since October 2025.
The state’s Department of Administration requested the demolition, citing the deterioration of the disused structure and the cost of maintaining it; stabilizing the bridge was estimated at $113,000 in 2021.
