TAKE ACTION! Protect Your Voice
If a place was important in your community, wouldn’t you want a voice in decisions that impact it?
The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP)’s proposed rule change for Section 106 regulations would eliminate public participation in federal preservation decisions.
Don’t let them silence your voice on decisions that could harm you and your neighbors. The people who live with the consequences deserve to be at the table to help shape the decision.
Section 106 is one of the few ways that ordinary Americans can still influence federal decisions affecting their communities. And it’s worked for 60 years.
State and Tribal Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs/THPOs) are the backbone of how this works day-to-day. They're the ones reviewing projects (and improving them through this process). Losing their standing removes local and Tribal expertise from federal decisions made in your backyard.
Under the proposed changes, state and local governments would lose the right to even be notified when a federal action threatens to damage or destroy a historic place in their own jurisdiction.
Let your governor know that these changes would directly impact your state.
