Last week, lawmakers introduced bipartisan and bicameral legislation to renew the African American Civil Rights Network (AACRN). The Renewing the African American Civil Rights Network Act (H.R. 9269, S. 4767), introduced by Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Sen. Lisa Blunt-Rochester (D-DE), Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC), and Rep. Mike Carey (R-OH) would reauthorize the AACRN, which lapsed in January of 2025, for 10 years.

The AACRN, managed by the National Park Service (NPS), was established in 2017 to create a network of properties, facilities, and programs that offer a comprehensive overview of the people, places, and events associated with the African American civil rights movement. The network now includes more than 130 historic sites, NPS units, and research programs across 29 states.

The continuation of this network is critical to help tell the full history of America. Without congressional action, no sites can join this important network. Urge your members of Congress to cosponsor the Renewing the African American Civil Rights Network Act today!
